Time to fish

The view is terrific and the fishing great from the road, and if you don't get caught the bridge fishing is fun and productive. People on South Andros don't eat shark, but every other kind of fish is caught, consumed, and sent to market. They don't eat shark because it will eat man.
When the crabs are running at night in the fall, the people are on the roads with a toe sack and a flash light to catch them and send to Nassau. It is a great supplemental income for the work.
The divers go out and bring up the big conch. Last October my neighbor fixed and sent to me some of the best conch fritters I have ever eaten.
Wouldn't you like just to take a trip and relax with an ocean breeze, friendly people, and great views? The swimming is out of this world too.

Peaceful South Andros

Image a coconut tree growing outside your house on the beach. Have you ever drank coconut water? It is great!!! Just take a great big knife and cut the end off and pour it in a cup. My little boy likes to stick a straw in the coconut and drink it.
People on South Andros make rice with pigeon peas and cook it with coconut water. The taste is beyond description.
Life on South Andros is peaceful and relaxing. Even if you have to get up and go to work, you don't mind because the sea gulls wake you and there is always something to smile about. The sea food is in abundance, and when the ladies cook the homemade bread it is better than what Momma used to make. The ladies on South Andros make a wonderful sweet potato bread. (Hint: Your waist line will expand if you don't enjoy the long walks down the beach). There are small bananas that grow on the island called sugar bananas and other great tasting fruit.

Andros--largest island in the Bahamas

Andros Island is the largest island of the Bahamas and the fifth largest island in the West Indies at roughly 2300 square miles (6,000 km²) in area and 104 miles (167 km) long and 40 miles (64 km) wide at its widest point. It is actually composed of three major islands: North Andros, Mangrove Cay, and South Andros. The island has the world's third largest barrier reef, which is over 140 miles long. It is affectionately known by Bahamians as the "Big Yard."

Bahamas map

The Bahamas are made up of approximately 700 islands. These islands are to the west of Florida in the Atlantic Ocean. Most people think of the Bahamas as Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, or Nassau, Providence Island. That is just a small tip of the real Bahamas. The other islands in the Bahamas are referred to the as the Family Islands. The largest island group in the Bahamas is Andros. Andros has three major groupings: North Andros, Central Andros, and South Andros. Though not heavily populated each area has daily air service, and the mail boats come twice a week. Groceries come from Nassau to the Family Islands on the mail boats. Lynx Air also flys into Andros from Fort Lauderdale twice a week. Continental Airlines also flys into North Andros.

This is a picture of my husband, George, our little boy, Buddy, and myself.
My husband and I have been married for thirty years, and Buddy is seven- years-
old the 25th of July. Thanks to the United States Navy and fulfilling the ministry we have lived in several places in the United States, New Zealand, and the Bahamas.
The last two years we have lived in the Bahamas on South Andros island. We feel it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It has a natural beauty beyond any other. The lady from the tourist department states that "the people are the friendliest in the world." This is very true.
